Editorial Policy

Last updated: March 22 2026

Ryde Travel is committed to producing travel content that is accurate, honest, independent, and genuinely useful to our readers. This Editorial Policy explains how we research, write, fact-check, and publish every piece of content on this website. We hold ourselves to these standards across all articles, guides, destination reviews, and recommendations — regardless of whether a post is sponsored, independently researched, or affiliate-linked.

We publish this policy in the interest of full transparency. If you have questions about how a specific piece of content was created, please contact us at our Contact page.

1. Our Editorial Mission

Ryde Travel exists to help real travellers plan better journeys. Our editorial mission is straightforward: we publish content that we would genuinely recommend to a friend planning the same trip. We do not publish content simply to fill a page, attract clicks, or satisfy an advertiser. Every article, destination guide, hotel review, and travel tip we publish must meet one test — does it genuinely help the reader?

Our content covers destination travel guides, accommodation reviews, wedding and honeymoon travel, cultural and heritage tourism, adventure and water sports, and practical travel planning across Asia and beyond. We focus particularly on South Asia and Southeast Asia, with strong coverage of Sri Lanka, Bali, India, Singapore, Japan, and surrounding destinations.

2. Who Creates Our Content

All content published on Ryde Travel is created by named, identifiable writers and editors. We do not publish anonymous content. Each article displays the author’s name, and authors maintain public profiles describing their travel expertise, regional experience, and professional background.

Our editorial team includes:

  • Travel writers and destination specialists — Writers with firsthand experience of the destinations they cover. We prioritise writers who have visited the places they write about and can provide genuine on-the-ground insight.
  • Research editors — Team members responsible for fact-checking claims, verifying business information, and confirming that practical details (opening hours, prices, visa requirements) are current and accurate.
  • Editorial reviewers — Senior editors who review all content before publication for accuracy, tone, completeness, and adherence to this editorial policy.

We clearly label any content that uses AI-assisted drafting tools. Where AI tools assist in research or drafting, a qualified human editor reviews, fact-checks, rewrites for accuracy, and takes editorial responsibility for the final published piece. We never publish unedited AI-generated content.

3. Research and Accuracy Standards

Ryde Travel applies the following research standards to every article we publish:

3.1 Primary Research

Where possible, our writers visit the destinations, venues, and attractions they cover. Firsthand experience is the foundation of our most detailed destination guides, hotel reviews, and activity recommendations. We actively seek writer accounts that include specific, verifiable personal observations — not generic descriptions available on any tourism website.

3.2 Secondary Research and Source Standards

When writers cannot visit a destination directly, we rely on a clearly defined hierarchy of credible sources:

  • Tier 1 — Official sources: Government tourism boards, embassy websites, national park authorities, and official venue and hotel websites. These sources take priority for all factual and regulatory claims.
  • Tier 2 — Established travel publications: Recognised travel media outlets, academic travel research, and published guidebooks with named authors and editorial standards.
  • Tier 3 — Verified traveller accounts: First-person accounts from verified travellers, used to support and contextualise Tier 1 and 2 findings. We do not treat unverified social media posts or anonymous reviews as primary sources.

We do not copy, paraphrase without attribution, or reproduce content from other websites. All factual claims that we cannot independently verify are either removed or attributed to their source with a link.

3.3 Practical Information Accuracy

Travel information changes frequently. Prices, visa requirements, opening hours, and transport routes can shift without notice. We apply the following standards to practical information:

  • All practical details are verified against official sources at the time of publication and carry a clear publication date.
  • We include “last updated” timestamps on guides containing time-sensitive practical information.
  • We encourage readers to verify current practical details — particularly visa requirements, entry restrictions, and pricing — directly with official sources before travelling.
  • We do not guarantee the accuracy of third-party information that changes after our publication date.

4. Editorial Independence

Ryde Travel maintains strict editorial independence from all commercial relationships. Our editorial team makes all content decisions independently of our advertising, affiliate, and sponsorship arrangements. The following principles govern our editorial independence:

  • Advertisers do not influence editorial content. No advertiser, sponsor, or affiliate partner receives preferential coverage, positive reviews, or guaranteed inclusion in our guides as a condition of their commercial relationship with us.
  • Sponsored content is always clearly labelled. Any article that has been commissioned, funded, or facilitated by a third party carries a clear “Sponsored Content” or “Paid Partnership” label at the top of the article. Readers will always know when content involves a commercial arrangement.
  • Complimentary stays and press trips are disclosed. When a hotel, resort, airline, or tourism board provides complimentary accommodation, travel, or experiences in exchange for coverage consideration, we disclose this clearly within the article. Complimentary treatment does not guarantee positive coverage — our editorial standards apply equally to paid and complimentary experiences.
  • Negative findings are published. If our research or firsthand experience identifies genuine problems with a destination, venue, or service, we include that information in our coverage. We do not suppress negative findings to protect commercial relationships.

5. Affiliate Links and Commercial Relationships

Ryde Travel participates in affiliate marketing programmes. This means that some links on our website — to hotels, booking platforms, travel products, and services — may generate a small commission if you click through and make a purchase. These commissions help support the running costs of this website and allow us to continue producing free travel content.

Our affiliate relationships include but are not limited to:

  • Hotel and accommodation booking platforms
  • Tour and activity booking services
  • Travel insurance providers
  • Travel gear and equipment retailers
  • Amazon Associates (for travel product recommendations)

We apply the following principles to all affiliate content:

  • We only recommend products, services, and venues that meet our genuine editorial standards. We do not recommend something solely because it generates a commission.
  • Affiliate links are identified where required by applicable disclosure regulations.
  • The presence of an affiliate link does not influence the editorial content of the article in which it appears.
  • Readers pay no additional cost when using our affiliate links — the commission comes from the supplier, not the buyer.

For full details of our commercial disclosure practices, please review our Disclosure page.

6. Corrections Policy

Ryde Travel takes factual accuracy seriously. When we publish incorrect information — whether due to an error in our research, a change in circumstances after publication, or a reader-submitted correction — we commit to the following corrections process:

  • Minor factual corrections (such as outdated prices, changed opening hours, or updated transport routes) are corrected in the article text and reflected in the updated “last updated” date. We do not issue a formal correction notice for routine updates to time-sensitive practical information.
  • Significant factual errors (such as incorrect attribution, materially misleading claims, or errors that could affect travel safety decisions) are corrected promptly with a clearly visible correction notice added to the article. The correction notice identifies what was wrong and what the correct information is.
  • Corrections submitted by readers are reviewed by our editorial team. Verified corrections result in article updates. We acknowledge reader corrections where appropriate.

To submit a correction, contact us via our Contact page with the article URL, the specific claim you believe is incorrect, and the source supporting the correct information.

7. Content Update Policy

Travel information has a shelf life. We actively maintain our most visited and most time-sensitive content to ensure it remains accurate and useful. Our update practices include:

  • Annual review of all destination guides, venue comparisons, and practical travel information articles.
  • Immediate updates when significant changes occur — such as venue closures, major regulatory changes affecting entry requirements, or safety advisories issued by official government bodies.
  • “Last updated” dates displayed on all guides containing practical travel information, so readers can assess the currency of the content before travelling.
  • Reader-triggered reviews when comments or contact submissions flag outdated information. We aim to review and update flagged articles within 14 working days of notification.

8. Photography and Visual Content Standards

All images published on Ryde Travel are either:

  • Original photography taken by our writers or commissioned photographers during destination visits.
  • Licensed stock photography from reputable providers, used in compliance with the applicable licence terms.
  • Images provided by hotels, venues, or tourism boards for press and editorial use, clearly attributed where required.

We do not publish photography without verifying we hold the appropriate rights to use it. All images carry descriptive alt text for accessibility compliance. We do not use misleading photography — images must accurately represent the destination, venue, or experience described in the accompanying content.

9. Comment and User Content Policy

Ryde Travel welcomes reader comments and contributions. We moderate all comments before publication. We approve comments that contribute genuine travel insight, questions, or constructive feedback. We do not publish comments that contain:

  • Spam, promotional links, or unsolicited commercial content
  • Offensive, abusive, or discriminatory language
  • Personally identifiable information about third parties submitted without consent
  • Deliberately misleading travel information that could endanger other travellers

Reader comments represent the views of the individual commenter and do not reflect the editorial position of Ryde Travel. We reserve the right to edit comments for clarity or length while preserving the commenter’s meaning.

10. Relationship with Ryde Foundation

Ryde Travel is part of the broader Ryde network, which includes the Ryde Foundation — a skill development and education initiative supporting rural youth in India. While we share values and a common organisational mission, editorial decisions at Ryde Travel are made independently of Ryde Foundation activities. The Foundation does not direct, influence, or fund the editorial content of this website.

11. Privacy and Data Responsibility

Ryde Travel collects and processes reader data in accordance with our Privacy Policy. We do not sell reader data to third parties. We apply responsible data handling practices to all reader interactions including newsletter sign-ups, contact form submissions, and comment moderation. Our full data practices are detailed in the Privacy Policy linked above.

12. Contacting Our Editorial Team

We welcome feedback, corrections, story pitches, and questions about our editorial practices. You can reach our editorial team through our Contact page.

If you are a PR professional, tourism board representative, or hotel operator interested in working with Ryde Travel, please use the same contact page and clearly identify your enquiry as a commercial or partnership request. Our editorial and commercial teams operate separately — commercial enquiries do not enter the editorial review process.

This Editorial Policy was last reviewed and updated in March 2026. We review this policy annually and update it whenever our editorial practices change materially. The current version of this policy always appears at this URL.
